While in most Mario games that feature extra lives, the object that grants them is a 1-Up Mushroom, in Hotel Mario, this object is supposed to be a Toad instead.
Top: the entry about Toad from the game’s manual. Middle: how Toad appears during gameplay (left side of image). Bottom: all of Toad’s sprites, extracted from the files.
The item appears as a cross between a regular type of mushroom as seen in Mario games, and a Blue Toad’s head, which results in it resembling a faceless, severed Blue Toad head hopping around.
In Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, every mission starts with Luigi being transported to the starting point via one of E. Gadd’s inventions, the Pixelator. Some missions have unique Pixelator animations, however, most use a generic animation.
An obscure detail about these is that there is a very small chance for any default Pixelator animation to be randomly replaced with one of several rare animations, shown above.
In the code of Super Mario 64, an unused blizzard environmental effect, named “Blizzerd” [sic] internally, can be found. It creates a large amount of snowflakes flying very quickly at an angle, as though in a strong wind.
As the game contains two snow courses: Cool, Cool Mountain and Snowman’s Land, it is possible that one of them was intended to have the normal calm snow falling effect and the other to have this. Particularly, since Snowman’s Land also contains several points with strong sideways winds, it appears that the effect could have been used there to differentiate it more from Cool, Cool Mountain.

The 2014 Japanese commercials for Yoshi’s New Island featured a version of the game’s main theme with lyrics. Since there were two different commercials, two versions with the same musical backing track, but different lyrics exist, both of which are included in this post.
